Here’s the archive for my live music-making adventures. Enjoy seeing a condensed songwriting process unfold (usually around 2 hours each), and join my email list to hear about upcoming live streams! Also, stay tuned for periodic opportunities to vote for one of these to become a more polished and fully fleshed-out song.
November 29, 2025 – I felt very much in a “flow” state for much of this one, and like how it turned out, which to me feels a bit like a BBC Charles Dickens adaptation meets a techno-ish dance rave.
Let’s Make Music! Episode 11 feat. Caleb Heidel “Gates of Iron”
October 28, 2025 – I have to say, this was probably the most fun I’ve had on one of these streams, especially since we both leaned hard into our goofy tendencies (and Caleb’s honest, if far-fetched fears, ironically). We laughed a lot, and Caleb led the way in weaving a hilarious, slightly satirical story of just how wrong jury duty can go.
Let’s Make Music! Episode 10 “Driving”
September 23, 2025 – I took the one word “Driving”(inspired by the fact my brother was driving as he tuned in) and went with that as the basis for the music. I felt particularly good about the way the bass part came out, as I can see that my bass playing is improving a lot!
Let’s Make Music! Episode 9 “The Storyteller” feat. Davy Codington AKA The Rogue Whistler
August 21, 2025 – (I’m the only one who calls him The Rogue Whistler, but whatever…) As is typical when I have a guest, his hidden musical talents blew me away, as he laid down some very tasteful ukulele, whistling, and vocals. The final result was a musical story about kids playing soccer, then finding out a great storyteller was at a nearby festival and their rush to go listen to him tell stories, hence the title “The Storyteller.”
Let’s Make Music! Episode 8 “Bluesy Afternoon”
July 31, 2025 – I used a spinner to randomly select instruments to play and other musical details. It turned out as a pretty straightforward 12-bar blues, hence the title “Bluesy Afternoon” bestowed by my mom 🙂
Let’s Make Music! Episode 7 featuring Joshua Rodriguez “Morning Mug”
June 30, 2025 – Joshua Rodriguez shreds on guitar, lyrics inspired by a chipped mug, special guest appearance by our cat Pistachio, and many shenanigans ensue…
Let’s Make Music! Episode 6 “also SPRING”
May 18, 2025 – They asked for ska, so this is what they got 🙂
Let’s Make Music! Episode 5 “Triangulation”
April 21, 2025 – Some fun and funky loops in ABA form, with two triangles – dubbed “Triangulation” by my mom 🙂 First time playing a bass with my interface!
Let’s Make Music! Episode 4 “Sea Shanty”
In March 2025, I created a lyric-less song that struck me as being a bit of a somber “Sea Shanty” featuring lots of strings, trombones, and vocalizing.(My mom thought it was more of a dirge…to each their own haha.)
Let’s Make Music! Episode 3 “Joy is Resistance” feat. Mia Morri
In February 2025, I did my first live stream with a very special guest, my wife Mia! She laid down some great vocals on a song exploring the idea that “Joy is Resistance,” with themes about hope in the midst of the chaos of the present moment.
At the end of January 2025, I did a live stream in which audience suggestions helped shape it into a wistful, harp-driven song about a lost love in Vermont and the challenge of letting go – ah, the fun of collaboration!
